Due to the threat of natural disasters, global pandemics, and economic restrictions, the stability of Sint Maarten's economy is often at risk, making it more difficult to invest in key social sectors for community development. Despite the hardships, our community's resilience and dedication to each other have inspired new ways of thriving, building connections, and finding support. Since the launch of EmpowerU in 2019, we have been able to provide resources both financial and educational to help support Caribbean minorities throughout the world. For us, forming deeper connections with our community to help facilitate the growth of others, build our cultural identity, and support those building their careers is key to helping inspire the next generation of global leaders. Working with Harsha has been such a motivating experience. At many points I felt to give up on the whole college dynamic; Harsha kept on pushing me and giving me reasons to stay motivated and determined when it came to applying for college. She taught me to always stay determined and focused until I succeed in my goal. With her help, I got accepted into 2 colleges in Holland, which I am more than grateful for. Being apart from EmpowerU showed me that everyone has the potential to be the best version of themselves and anyone can accomplish their goals when they put their full attention and focus on what they want, stay persistent, and never quit.
